Techniques
Printmaking:
Karen's primary printmaking technique is relief. Each print is created by hand using a wooden spoon as a burnisher. For materials, she uses both wood and linoleum for her relief cuts, and prints on archival Japanese Hosho or Kitakata printmaking papers.
Painting:
Current paintings are a study in traditional formal problems such as light and dark studies, using everyday objects as a point of reference. Karen paints with oils on BFK paper treated with gesso.
Drawing:
Karen's drawings include life drawing and experimentation with media. Media include oil sticks, charcoal, oils, graphite, chalk pastel and conte crayon.
