Multiple Panels by Karen Matheis

I am exploring the idea of panels that can be displayed either fitting together as one large piece or displayed with space between each panel.  The piece below is 72 inches long and 44 inches tall when panels are together.

Documenting Work by Karen Matheis

Today, I spent this cold April morning with photographer Aaron Paden as he documented new large paintings at his Downtown Lawrence studio.

The studio is located above a store and is equipped with large ceilings and a wonderful view of Downtown. Visiting his studio is always fun as there is an array of lenses, lights, and other photography related things stored here and there and on shelves.

Finishing New Work by Karen Matheis

It's always exciting to work in the final stages of a group of paintings.   Currently, I will finish around seven larger paintings.

One of the finished paintings is a three paneled landscape that can be displayed together or spaced.

When the batch of paintings dry, I will have these new paintings photographed.

Spring is Here by Karen Matheis

It's that time of year when the weather is warmer and days are longer.  In Lawrence, Jayhawk tournament basketball permeates with games broadcasted in stores.

In the studio, I am working on large and colorful still life paintings.

New Collector: Federal Home Loan Bank by Karen Matheis

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka, Kansas has acquired two of my paintings for their collection this month.  I am happy my paintings are part of an overall thoughtful design for the FHL's corporate headquarters.

HTK Architects were in charge of the interior of the three storied modern space which included much natural light and scenic views. The client wished to project a stable and conservative image, while also providing offices that are light, open and organized, and facilitate communication.

Painting in Winter by Karen Matheis

We've had a few snowy days in this month of January.  It makes perfect painting weather.  The skies are a particular color of lavender in the mornings.  I noticed the snow sparkles on my early morning runs.

Current projects include a series painting consisting of three panels, and many 32 x 32 inch paintings that are being worked out;  some will become larger paintings.
