Simplicity / by Karen Matheis

My work approach follows an aesthetic for an understated simplicity.  Miles Davis' "Kind Of Blue" is on my turn table as I paint.  I think about my morning drive as the sun is first coming up.  There is a stillness as the car moves through the landscape. I try to capture this in my paintings. Capturing the morning landscape in painting is a journey of art exploration that has taken me years to explore, and I feel there is still more to uncover.
